On The Punt: Caulfield best bets for Saturday, July 12, 2025
News Corp form analyst Chris Vernuccio takes a look at the Caulfield meeting on Saturday. â– â– â– â– â– BEST BET IN FLIGHT (R8 No.6): In Flight is ready for the step up to Group 3 company after back-to-back Listed wins. She would prefer if the track stays in the soft range with all seven of her career wins on rain-affected surfaces, however, she has placed in four from five on good ground. The 1100m is also in her sweet spot with six wins and three placings from 13 attempts. NEXT BEST YELLOW SAM (R7 No.3): Yellow Sam has won both starts since his return from injury and can expect another honest performance from her. She meets most of her main rivals from last start and should get a similar run in transit after drawing barrier five again. SHADHAVAR (R2 No.7): Shadhavar has won both trials ahead of her return. Her two career wins have been at the 1100m, and she was Group 3 placed at the track and distance last campaign behind talented filly Arabian Summer. LAY OF THE DAY THE JOCKEY Craig Williams has chances in nearly every race, which includes three favourites. SIGNATURE SCENT (R1 No.2 – $2.20), SCAMPI (R2 No.4 – $7.50), SUPERCILIOUS (R3 No.2 – $3.80), POUNDING (R4 No.1 – $4.40), MOMETZ (R5 No.7 – $4.60), SILVER CLIFF (R6 No.19 – $11), THE OPEN (R7 No.9 – $4.20), IN FLIGHT (R8 No.6 – $2.70), OUTTA COMPTON (R9 No.12 – $8). Taree tips and race-by-race inside mail: $3.80 best bet
The Daily Telegraph and Racenet form analyst Shayne O'Cass provides his best bets, quaddie analysis and jockey to follow as well as a race-by-race tips analysis for Monday's meeting at Taree. ■■■■■BEST BET Race 3 No. 1: Navy Pier Was off the map on debut, fair effort, spelled, resumes in an easier race here. ■■■■■NEXT BEST Race 1 No 1: Expido Only has to reproduce his debut at Wyong last summer to be winning here. ■■■■■VALUE Race 5 No. 3: Jonny Be Swift Won here at Taree over this same trip, same jockey. Go well. ■■■■■BEST EXOTIC Race 1 (exacta) No. 1 to beat No. 4 ■■■■■QUADDIE Race 5: 3,10,11 Race 6: 2,7,10 Race 7: 5,9,10 Race 8: 2,7,10 ■■■■■JOCKEY TO FOLLOW Aaron Bullock has hit the lead in the NSW Jockeys Premiership and will ride five good chances on Monday. ■■■■■Expido brings together trainer Angela Davies and jockey Andrew Gibbons for the 172nd time, mindful that they share winning strike rate of 24.6 per cent which rises to 52 per cent when placings are added. As for Expido, a repeat of his Wyong fourth on debut would make this a gift for punters. Diva Rouge has done the groundwork with four rather encouraging trials spaced back to September last year. Trumper is well bred and well-drawn. Bet: Expido to win, exacta 1 to beat 4. Montgolfier, an ex-Godolphin galloper, has placed twice in five runs for Colt Prosser; one of those was here. Can forgive him for last start at Port Macquarie, it wasn't a bad run as it stands, and we could argue it was a better race than this one. Squatternut Bosh drew wide and was scratched from Coffs Harbour on Sunday. Wise move given she has barrier 4 in a very winnable race it seems. Birdy Girl flew home last start. B e t: Montgolfier to win, exacta 2 to beat 9. Navy Pier was scratched from an unusually strong maiden at Newcastle on Saturday and instead finds himself in an unusually weak looking maiden. He's also got barrier 3 and city-class jockey Ben Osmond to steer. Was off the map on debut, lost, spelled and has trialled well ahead of the return. Not that he is over the line but frankly there is almost nowhere else to look here. That being the case, expect very short odds about him. Navy Pier to win. Charleroi has been nominated for two races in the next few days. If he comes to Taree, he'll be very hard to beat on his form, let alone the prized draw. If he is out, all roads lead to Annoint which has only managed one win in his 19 starts but importantly, it was at this very same track and distance. Likes the sting out too. Bellini Spritz is itching to get to a mile you would think being a Dundeel from the great family of Ethereal. Bet: Charleroi to win or if scratched Annoint each-way. Jonny Be Swift has been to Taree twice, over this same trip too as it happens, winning one and running third at the other. Important to note that Aaron Bullock ride him when he won his maiden here and what's more, it was a heavy track. Fit horse just needs some luck early on from the wide alley. Merapi has drawn in close and barring any adverse track pattern on the day, surely it gives this mudlark her best chance to perform. Bet: Jonny Be Swift to win, Merapi each-way, quinella 3,11. Full Commitment wears the same colours as Saturday's deserved Highway winner, Red Rags To Bulls. Like a lot of the Jeremy Gask stable, Full Commitment is a very reliable horse, noted in her record of a win and five placings from 11 starts. Is easy to like apart from the draw. Speaking of draws, assuming the inside is not off for any reason, it could be game on for King Soleil which will jump from barrier 2 with the key rider booking of Ash Morgan. Savoca is trained by Paul Perry who also trained the sire Choisir and dam The Look. Savoca has mixed and matched it with some good horses when he was climbing the ladder; he was runner-up to Midnight Opal at start two. In terms of Monday, we know he goes well fresh, we know he handles the wet and this is his sort of trip. Smart Jazz is back home on Monday after a rather creditable run in a Highway behind a horse who he was runner-up to at Scone 11-days earlier. Zoom Outcome has a commendable record of six wins, four seconds and a third from his 33 starts which is a good place to start for those considering backing him each-way on Monday. We should also point out that he has a win and two seconds from seven runs at the track and trip and perhaps best of all, all six wins are circa the 1000m. Let's hope it is wet, the wetter the better for him. Telegraph has finished close up behind Zoom Outcome a couple of times in recent outings. He'll be coming home hard again.

Brad Waters' best bets and value play for Ballarat Synthetic races Friday
Form expert Brad Waters analyses Friday's Ballarat Synthetic meeting, presenting his best bets, value selection and jockey to follow. Form analyst Brad Waters looks at Friday's meeting at Ballarat Synthetic, presenting his best bets, value selection and jockey to follow. • â– â– â– â– â– BEST BET Race 3 No.1 AQUEDUCT: The locally-trained gelding showed ability last time in but his recent jumpouts indicate he can make a winning return on Friday. â– â– â– â– â– NEXT BEST Race 2 No.4 DYNASTY REWARD: Chased home the impressive Mercurial Lady on this track last time. He gets his chance to break through third-up. Race 6 No.2 FLYING STRAZ: She went to the spelling paddock after a synthetic win and could make it two in a row from the perfect draw on Friday. â– â– â– â– â– VALUE BET Race 4 No.14 TOROTENA: Looked in need of more ground when not disgraced on debut at Swan Hill. He can improve sharply with the benefit of race experience. â– â– â– â– â–

Tamworth and Moruya best bets, inside mail for Friday, June 27, 2025
The Daily Telegraph and Racenet form analyst Shayne O'Cass provides his best bets and quaddie analysis for Tamworth and Moruya on Friday. • â– â– â– â– â– TAMWORTH TIPS BEST BET Race 2 No.1: OCCULT Ex-Godolphin galloper now with Cody Morgan. Trialling well. NEXT BEST Underrated horse; very reliable type, resuming at home. VALUE BET Race 8 No.3: THIS ONE TIME Went within inches of bagging a hat-trick last start. QUADDIE Race 5: 2, 3, 6 Race 6: 2, 4, 8 Race 7: 4, 5, 10 Race 8: 3, 4 JOCKEY TO FOLLOW AARON BULLOCK will be mighty popular in the Jockeys Challenge. TAMWORTH INSIDE MAIL OUR BOY OLLIE (6) is trained here by Michelle Fleming. The rising 7YO has raced here nine times for three wins and two placings. Better still, he has two wins a second and a third from four runs at this same track and distance. Goes well enough fresh, trialling exceedingly well and gets Aaron Bullock on. RHYTHM IS A DANCER (2) has won seven races and placed nine times in just 28 starts. He's constantly run well against, and beating, good quality country horses. Has to go in. BET: OUR BOY OLLIE to win, quinella 2, 6. FIORSUM FRED (2) was beaten 10 lengths at Randwick in a Benchmark 72 mile race. He probably should have won the Gunnedah Cup the start before and did win a Highway the start before that so his best is better than most here. CENOTES (4) has drawn the outside barriers in the Beer Week Cup and Wauchope Cup and paid a price each time. Can never doubt his willingness. ANNULUS (8) was third in the Wauchope Cup at Port last time. Peaking. BET: FIORSUM FRED to win, Cenotes each-way. LORD PROTECTOR (3) started off in Victoria with Busuttin/Young. The son of Savabeel has raced six times in NSW for Craig Martin, winning twice and running three good races in that time. Should mention that one of those wins came at the expense of A Pound Of Salt. TO BE FRANK (5) is/was entered for the Highway on the weekend but drew very wide indeed. The fact that he was a good chance there makes him a big chance here. BET: LORD PROTECTOR to win, quinella 4,5, box trifecta 4, 5, 8, 10. THIS ONE TIME (3) is another canny Rodney Northam buy, he paid $36,000 for the filly at the Inglis Classic Yearling sale and she's already won $46,000 back in seven starts. It could have been a bit more, only she was beaten a lip when on a hat-trick here on June 16. Group One Bloodstock's bargain SPANISH NIGHT (4) was supremely impressive when he won at Moree on debut. Home track this time. ENTERPRISE LEGEND (2) is well in contention. BET: THIS ONE TIME to win, box trifecta 2, 3, 4, 9. â– â– â– â– â– MORUYA TIPS BEST BET Race 3 No.8: RING OF FIRE Was warming up late on debut. Looks on an upward trajectory. NEXT BEST Race 2 No.10: SAWMILL Extra furlong this time could make all the difference. VALUE BET Race 5 No. 11: KOOL BIRD Races especially well here at the home track and distance. MORUYA INSIDE MAIL RACE 5: BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1010m) KOOL BIRD (11) has only won once in her 17 starts but most other numbers read rather well actually. For starters, her lone win was here at home. She has raced at the track and distance five times for two seconds and a third. Performs fresh. Kembla resident PRINCETON (1) is no stranger to Moruya having been there four times for two wins and a second. Both career wins are but neither from such a wide draw as Friday's. BET: KOOL BIRD to win. FIRE AND GEMSTONE (3) is racing in fabulous form, his last three in particular, all of them at the Sapphire Coast. With that said, Moruya is his home track and he's won twice there, one at this same distance. PRETTY EYED (9) has won twice and both were at Moruya. Proper miler 1420m fresh, is within her reach. ZOUWASE (5) kept taking steps during his short, sharp first campaign. Tjaka and Soul Taker have claims. BET: FIRE AND GEMSTONE to win, Daily Double 1st Leg 3, 2nd Leg 8. FOURCADE (6) has seven runs here at home for a win and five placings, five runs at the track and trip for a win and four placings. The Shaun Cody-trained daughter of the Germany-based stallion, our own Counterattack, has a nice draw and gets two-off. CANI CANCAN (7) (has raced in some of Moruya's best races and gone well pretty much every time. Won two from four first-up. SUPER EXTREME (2) is a big watch. BET: FOURCADE to win, quinella 6,7, box trifecta 2, 3, 6, 7. WINNIE FORTUNE (8) is a lightly-raced local whose five runs have included a win over Cougars (who is handy) at Nowra as well as three thirds, one each to Beer Baron and The Unique Star, again, both above average country gallopers. GRACEFUL ELLEN (6) was $1.85 when she resumed with a narrow win at Bathurst on June 19. Has been here twice before and ran rather well even though she missed a medal. PLATINUM RIDGE (3), Winning Emotions are chances in a very open race.

Back to provincial grade and hard to beat. NEXT BEST Has improved with each run and scored a good win last start. Strong chance again. VALUE BET Race 2 No. 2: DONWON Coming off a nice win here last start. Nice chance again. QUADDIE Race 4: 1, 2 Race 5: 1, 2, 6 Race 6: 2, 6 Race 7: 1, 3, 6 JOCKEY TO FOLLOW KERRIN MCEVOY looks a good chance in the TAB Jockey Challenge. BALLINA BEST BET Race 7 No. 4: RAINBOW LASS Just beaten here before winning her next two all on heavy ground. Can bring up the hat-trick. NEXT BEST Race 6 No. 2: YALLA Solid winner two starts ago. Back slightly in trip from his fourth over the mile. INSIDE MAIL – GOSFORD ZING TO ME (3) debuted with a closing second behind Agenda Setter at Hawkesbury last August and has been off the scene until stepping out in a Randwick trial on May 5. She shared the lead and held Glorious Moments. Led for a big win in her second trial at Rosehill from Infusion. JIMMY RECARD (5) was given a shot at the listed Debutant Stakes at Caulfield in the spring where he was eighth to Miss Celine. Closed nicely late for third to Quietly Arrogant in his May 30 Randwick trial. JUST LEGENDARY (6) is a first starter by Justify from the Waterhouse and Bott stable. Sat very wide in winning his Randwick trial then led all-the-way in his Rosehill heat. DONWON (2) resumed with a handy second behind Secure over 1100m at Canterbury. Battled away when fifth to the progressive Queen's Rhapsody at Hawkesbury before scoring a smart win from Hard Rattle over 1000m here last start. Drawn well and will give this a shake. HAWKER HALL (3) kicked off his campaign with a three-and-half length win from He's Cool over 900m at Newcastle on Apr 23. Didn't race again until a fifth to Prima Bella over the same track and distance on May 26. HONEY PERFUME (6) broke her maiden with a big win at Goulburn and followed with a nose second to Shropshire Lad at Scone and a second to Divine Bene here. LOUISBURGH (4) battled away when second behind Ninette in a Wyong Super Maiden first-up on May 8 before going don by a nose to Whispering Rupert over this track and distance three weeks later. Winkers go on. SIGNOR TORTONI (6) was pressured in front before going down by just over a half-length to Octa De Lago when resuming as a $1.35 favourite on a Heavy 9 at Goulburn on May 22. Given three weeks to get over the run. Was a close runner-up in two races on soft ground at Canterbury last time in. GOLDEN SMILE (2) ran nice placings at her first three runs back from a spell. Appreciated stepping up to 1890m with a big maiden win at Newcastle before a fifth on the Kensington. Back to provincial grade and up to 2100m looks ideal. BOLD SPLENDOR (1) returned from a let-up with a fourth over 1600m at Coonabarabran before a two-and-a-half length fourth to Okami Star over the same trip here on May 29. Ready to step up to the 2100m. MR CONSPIRACY (5) closed from near last when fourth to Ant over 200m at Kembla. UNUSUAL PROSPECT (1) was a close second over 2000m at his only run in England last November. Kicked off his Australian career with a strong closing head second to Gwendie over 1600m at Kembla on Jan 29. Hit the line smartly when third to Oso Spirited in his 1030m Rosehill trial. STEEL RAIN (8) boxed on okay for second behind Pick Up The Tab when resuming over 1200m at Kembla. Stepped up to 1500m and led when a head second to Fairhead at Goulburn last start. THE BEAST (3) has placed third in both run this campaign but hasn't looked entirely comfortable on the heavy tracks. He will appreciate getting back on a better surface. COVERT THINKING (6) settled last and made ground along the rails on debut at Hawkesbury before closing nicely for a half-length second to Elivina over 1500m at Newcastle. Backed it up with a handy win over this track and distance on May 29. Gets in well with the 3kg claim. SURREAL I AM (2) kicked off his campaign with a good win at Sunshine Coast before a fifth at the Gold Coast. Bounced back with another nice win at the Sunshine Coast. OAKFIELD MAMSELLE (1) resumes here. Is a first-up winner and unbeaten at the trip. BURJ (6) raced well in her first campaign including a debut win over 1300m in a Newcastle Super Maiden and a half-length second to C'mon mate at Kembla. Wasn't pushed when second to Sovereign Hill in her May 30 Randwick trial. DIDDLE DUMPLING (3) won her maiden over 1400m at Hawkesbury before a seventh in a Randwick Bm72 and fifth to Wooloowin at the Gold Coast. Kept under a hold with plenty to offer in both recent trials. POWER BALLARD (1) will appreciate a drop back to provincial grade and a claim.
